Sundance Film Festival 2014: tutti i film premiati
Nella sera del 26 gennaio 2014, sono stati assegnati tutti i premi del Sundance Film Festival 2014. Il famoso evento cinematografico, dedicato al cinema indipendente, la cui direzione artistica è affidata dal 1981 a Robert Redford.
Il festival venne fondato dalla Utah Film Commission nel 1978 con il nome di Utah/United States Film Festival, con lo scopo di attrarre sceneggiatori, registi e produttori indipendenti.
Nel 1981 Robert Redford fondò il Sundance Institute, un’organizzazione senza scopo di lucro, che trae la propria denominazione dal personaggio di Sundance Kid, bandito gentiluomo. Tale evento ha permesso di ottenere successo ai grandi registi cinematografici: Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, Jim Jarmusch e Steven Soderbergh.
Originalmente l’evento si svolgeva a settembre e dal 1984 è stato spostato nel mese di gennaio, il mese per eccellenza dedicato alla stagione sciistica. Tale spostamento nel calendario, consentì al festival di diventare il principale evento cinematografico per il cinema indipendente americano e internazionale.
A vincere il prestigioso premio Sundance è stato il film “Whiplash” scritto e diretto dal giovane Damien Chazelle. Il film racconta il rapporto difficile tra un batterista Jazz e il suo insegnante. La pellicola è stata subito acquistata per 3 milioni di euro da Sony Pictures classics e il film sarà distribuito nella prossima estate.
